Neurological Care

The Neuro Numbers 2019 report, produced by the Neurological Alliance, estimates there are 14.7 million neurological cases in England, equating to at least 1 in 6 people living with one or more neurological conditions. Whilst the implications vary between individuals and different neurological conditions, this highlights the prevalence of neurological conditions among the population at the national scale. 

A Sue Ryder (2019) report on the provision of health and social care services for people with neurological conditions notes that, for younger people suffering with neurological conditions, traditional elderly persons nursing or care homes are socially inappropriate as well as unable to meet their care needs. The report indicates that 15,143 people with neurological conditions have been placed in care homes for the elderly across England. 

The lack of appropriate facilities which can provide the specialist care required has resulted in hospitals not being able to appropriately discharge neurological patients, this results in a reduction in available beds for those most in need. 

Lansdown identify the areas where these specialist facilities are most needed, identify suitable sites, and design exceptional facilities capable of delivering the outstanding levels of care that the residents deserve.

Detailed planning application submitted July 2022 for a 70-bed specialist neurological nursing home. The building is designed to offer outstanding levels of care for residents and incorporates rooms for physiotherapy, consulting, a sensory room and a hydrotherapy pool. En-suites, bathrooms and corridors are wider than average to allow use by specialist wheelchairs. We were keen to maximise the therapeutic benefits of gardening into the scheme, with attractive gardens which incorporate growing areas with raised planters and a mini orchard.
